Somewhat late news coming up! :)

A new game from Zeroteam (Slovakia) was released recently. Its' gameplay resembles Lines: you need to find a requested combination of two blocks on the field so it could be cleared out. Clearing out the entire row on the field will bring you more new blocks.

You can download either the original .tap flie or tiboh's TR-DOS adaptation.

[ZXEvo] Brand New Game: Project Robo by hippiman

posted by nix./site

ScreenieIt now can be honestly said that while the Russian game development seems to be back on its' feet, the ZX Evolution gamedev has only arose. Here's a fine proof: hippiman has made this quirky blend of a top-down shooter and a rouge-like game on pure C (which couldn't be possible without the SDK developed by Alone Coder and Shiru, though), which also includes eyecandy comparable to what you may see on Sega MegaDrive and really lush music from Sprinter.

Given that this game was made for a really sophisticated Spectrum clone, most of you guys might not own an actual PentEvo, but that's not a big bother, since you can run it on a very special emulator available here (use F3 to load the game, then F12 to reset to TR-DOS and autorun the game). WASD moves the player robot while cursor keys let him shoot in different directions.

Download the game itself here!

Star Heritage Is Now In English!

posted by nix./site

ScreenieWell, not quite, considering it's only a demo version that got the translation so far. Still, it's complete and it's working, so download the TRD image here to try it out. It should perfectly work in Spectaculator, FUSE or UnrealSpeccy.

Star Heritage was developed by STEP Creative Group in 1995 and was probably one of the first hit games of the Russian Spectrum homebrew scene. It's a gfx+text adventure which, however, incorporates a pure menu-based interface, alongside combats, day and night simulation and, somewhat obviously, exciting storyline. Several years later, it was remade for GameBoy Color and PC (with the latter being a licensed remake).

Announcements of Avalanche and Mayhem [ZX81] by Revival Studios

posted by nix./site

Revival Studios releases new games for the Sinclair ZX-81 computer

Revival Studios has started development and publishing for the Sinclair ZX-81 home computer. The first 2 releases are Avalanche and Mayhem.

Avalanche is a fun action game people can just pick up and play. The player has to shoot the various gems that are falling down from the top of the screen. The gems are marked with symbols and the player has to match up the symbol of his ship with the symbol on the gems.

Mayhem is centered around Clive Junior (Sir Clive's clumsy son). His latest invention went terribly wrong! It exploded and all kinds of parts are flying across the room! Your goal is clear and simple: avoid the debris while running around and picking up parts to gain points!

The games feature modern features such as:

  • Fast, flicker free, arcade gameplay
  • Online highscores and achievements
  • Support for the Zxpand joystick interface
  • Support for AY soundboards

Both games run on a ZX81 with 16KB RAM and are available on cassette tape and as digital download. For more information about the games, check out the Revival Studios website at: www.revival-studios.com

Brand New Game by Mojon Twins: Maritrini Starring The Fratellis

posted by nix./site

A more simplistic and a more humorous prequel to Maritrini: The Freelance Monster Slayer. Its' full title translates to something like Maritrini, Freelance Monster Slayer, in "The incredible misadventures of waking up with a hangover and Fred in your bed and having to get (more or less in time) to an audition for "Vigorous Monsters with Shiny Manly Chests" featuring The Fratellis. The gameplay is now based off Babaliba rather than Gauntlet.

Maritrini Andrews, a young actress, wakes up after a loud party in her mansion and needs to do her morning deeds before she goes to the audition of a new movie called "Vigorous Monsters with Shiny, Manly Chests". The only problem is: the things she needs for those deeds are scattered all around the mansion area, which is ridiculously huge, not to mention that her neighbors, the Fratellis, appearantly want to tear our heroine to pieces...

This is also a demo for the upcoming Super Babazoominator Construction Kit for ZX Basic, which is to be released in the meantime. As for now, you can get the game here and its' source code there.

Although isn't that already obvious from the game's title?..

Brand New Game By Yerzmyey: Zbylut Owrzodzien

posted by nix./site

It's pretty uncommon to see a game by Yerz, but this is the moment when he has actually released one, with the big help of Hellboj and Mister Beep! Like many other works from Yerzmyey, this one is so insane and crazy that it's not even worth describing... Just to not spoil the surprise!

The game perfectly works on 48K machines. Not only that, it spots some state-of-the-art AY music during the gameplay process.

So get it here.
